Raspberry Parade

I love Autumn ~ it's when all of the new jewels arrive!  We are expecting so many new pieces and new designers this year, it is quite exciting!  Les Nereides is always a favourite and the new lines created will not disappoint you.  Our first shipment of Pas De Deux in a gorgeous Dark Pink has arrived and it is a fabulous colour for Autumn Winter.

The colour is like a wonderfully rich raspberry, the perfect thing to give your winter wardrobe a boost.

The Crown Necklace is quite something, embellished with sparkling light pink crystals!

These charming pieces are always popular with our customers and the new colour is a must have.

We are still expecting many more lines of Les Nereides over the coming weeks, beautiful Le Jardin done in Blanc Opal, winter red berries, white pearl grape necklaces and beautiful violets perfect for winter.
Keep watching our website as we add new jewels and new designers!

We Be Jammin'! ~ Part One: Raspberries

As some of you may already know, I have been out in the fields picking berries at Grange Farm to make jam.  It is the most peaceful place, perfectly quiet surrounded by farmland - the english countryside is wonderful.

I also said I would write a blog about jam making so that anyone who hasn't made it before can give it a go - you'll see how easy it is and how wonderful the jam tastes and then you may not ever want to eat store bought jam again!

So, here it goes, Jam Making Part 1: Raspberries.

You will need to organise everything before you start so make sure you have the following:

1. Jam jars - use jars you've been saving or you can buy jars at Sainsburys, Tesco or Waitrose. You will need to sterilise the jars before use so run them through the dishwasher and then put them in the oven at a low heat to keep them warm.
2. Waxed paper - use this to seal the jam in the jar before putting the lid on. We go through the jam too quickly at our house to bother with this but I would recommend it if you plan on storing the jam for some time. There are different perserving methods so this is something you can look into if you want more perserving power!
3. Labels - I like to go to Staples, buy labels and then decorate them myself. Very important to label each jar otherwise you may forget what is what.
4. A large, deep saucepan to make the jam in.
5. A potato masher to crush the fruit.
6. 1kg bag of jamming sugar - available at most supermarkets.
7. 1kg of raspberries! Preferably picked fresh, it makes better jam and sets quickly.
8. Kitchen scales to weigh fruit.
9. wooden spoon to stir jam.
10. A small side plate to test the jam.
11. A pyrex measuring jug

Method:

Weigh 1kg of raspberries and pour into saucepan. Empty 1kg bag of jamming sugar into saucepan. Take potato masher and crush fruit - you can leave some whole if you like!

Turn hob onto med-high heat whilst stirring the sugar into the fruit. We need to ensure the sugar dissolves completely so keep stirring. It feels quite grainy on the bottom of the pan when the sugar hasn't dissolved completely. PLEASE BE CAREFUL! Boiling jam will give you a serious burn!

Keep the heat up and continue stirring. The sugar will dissolve in a few minutes.  Once the sugar is completely dissolved,  we will need to bring the jam to a rolling boil.

After 3 minutes of a rolling boil, turn off the heat and spoon a small amount of the jam onto the side plate - let it cool for a minute so you don't burn yourself. Push the jam with your finger, if there is resistance and it has the consistancy of jam then your jam is set! If not, boil for another minute or two and repeat.  Don't overcook the jam because otherwise it will never set properly.

Pour the jam carefully from the pot into the pyrex measuring jug. It is easier to fill the jars from the measuring jug as it will pour easier.  Fill your jars with delicious raspberry jam and seal with lids or your chosen perserving method when the jars have cooled enough to touch.  When the jars have cooled completely, label each one and enjoy!
There you have it - you've made a delicious batch of jam!  You can use this method with most fresh berries like blackberries, black and red currants or strawberries. The fresher the fruit the better the jam.
This is also a great gift idea - decorate the label and jar to make the perfect homemade present!

Good Intentions

So Charming has been supplying you with gorgeous jewels for nine years and we have enjoyed every minute of it.  We have always strived to bring our customers jewellery that is not only beautiful and well made but jewellery that makes us feel good, inside and out.  Jewellery with intention.

Good Charma is definitely a jewellery brand with intention. Pamela Fink, founder of Good Charma, is a firm believer of "paying it forward", an idea we firmly believe in and try to practice on a daily basis.
With a discerning eye for trends, a passion for Balinese culture, and a powerful belief in generosity and spreading positive vibes, Pamela has created a line of hip, funky jewellery with the intention of bringing good fortune to all who wear it. - See more at: http://socharming.co.uk/shop-by-designer/good-charma-handcrafted-designer-jewellery#sthash.xNq29eng.dpuf

With a discerning eye for trends, a passion for Balinese culture, and a powerful belief in generosity and spreading positive vibes, Pamela has created a line of hip, funky jewellery with the intention of bringing good fortune to all who wear it.  The original six strand Good Charma bracelet was  made with the intention of giving one of the bracelets away as a gift to someone who needed it ~ a beautiful sentiment of generosity and goodwill.

Each of the Good Charma bracelets hold meaning and intention, either through the semi precious stones the bracelets are made of or the silver charms that adorn them.  Best of all, not only do they make you feel good but they look fantastic - and because they are stretch bracelets you can wear as many as you like and they fit practically anyone...nice.

Pyrrha is still quite new to So Charming but our customers have embraced the whole idea of Pyrrha jewellery straightaway - and we don't blame them one bit.  Rich in symbolism, all of Pyrrha's handcrafted jewellery is designed and made with the use of 18th and 19th century wax seals, rich with meanings culled from heraldry.

The hope is that you will find a talisman that inspires you and helps to remind you of the things that are important in your life. There seems to be a talisman to mark every occasion in your life no matter how big or small.  Each piece even comes with a hand torn meaning card so you'll never forget the true meaning of your carefully chosen talisman.

The beauty of Pyrrha is that men can wear it too - no more deciding what to get him because Pyrrha has it sorted!  So Charming have one of the largest Pyrrha collections in the UK and it is still growing so we are bound to have something you'll love.

The Barber's Daughters joined So Charming this year and we couldn't be more thrilled with their beautifully handcrafted pieces.
The Barber's Daughters create jewellery of message, meaning and purpose by engraving words of inspiration into semi and precious metals that when worn become grounding agents or touch stones.  Gisele, founder of TBDS in Toronto, says the inspiration of TBDS is to wear reminders to connect to our intangible beauty and strength and shift our thinking from our head to our heart where we make better decisions.

TBDS is a wonderful addition to So Charming and we encourage everyone to shop Gisele's beautiful designs with equally beautiful meaning. Definitely feel good jewellery.

Dogeared Jewelry has been with So Charming from the beginning, I even remember when I first came across it.  I was looking through the Harrod's catalogue when I came across the loveliest bracelet for Mother's Day - I had to have it!   I had to have it so much that we took on the entire line and never looked back!  In fact, we even featured Dogeared Jewellery on Ideal World...must find the tape somewhere and write a seperate blog for that one!

Dogeared has certainly come along way since then but their message of love, peace and good karma still rings true with every piece of jewellery they create.

Perfect for every occasion, Dogeared jewellery is a gift and card in one.  With their dainty and charming necklaces beautifully placed on a meaning card with a heartfelt message, Dogeared has pretty much nailed it when it comes to giving a great gift - or treating yourself!

So Charming have had the pleasure of stocking Jeanine Payer jewellery since 2008.  I own quite a few pieces of Jeanine Payer because there is always one piece that just speaks to me,  both through design and the words that are written upon it.
The first fashion choice a person makes is what to wear next to their skin; jewellery design is ancient and powerful because of the message it sends about the wearer to the world. We express who we are; our essential selves and what we stand for through these small choices. Jewellery is endowed with emotional memory.
The Edmond necklace (shown) is one of  our bestselling Jeanine Payer necklaces.  Made from sterling silver and 18k gold, it certainly looks beautiful, especially the classic pocket watch design. However, we believe it is what's written on the pendant itself that really draws our customers to this particular piece - and we wish this for all of you too.

"May the sun bring you new energy by day, May the moon softly restore you by night, May the rain wash away your worries, May the breeze blow new strength into your being, May you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life."
-Apache blessing

I think there will have to be a part two, but until then thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed some insight into our designers.

The Chic Zoe Chicco!

We're VERY excited here at So Charming as we will be welcoming another new designer in mid September ~ Zoe Chicco!

Delicate and modern, sexy but elegant, Zoë Chicco has found the perfect alchemy of style and femininity women are looking for today in their jewellery. In describing her work, Zoë, a trained goldsmith, says she draws inspiration from her surroundings and often her friends.  Most of the pieces in her collection have been made with a particular muse in mind.
Zoë’s gift is an ability to create personal, classic pieces that are at the same time versatile. Her everyday pieces are significant enough to be worn alone but delicate enough to wear layered together.
“Jewellery is an expression of who you are; it is personal and it should evoke a feeling. The right jewellery can completely change your mood.  That is what I want to give to my clients.  A bejeweled happy place…” ZC
We look forward to welcoming Zoe Chicco to So Charming and her fabulous line of elegant and feminine jewellery.  We will have her pieces on pre-order shortly so keep checking our website and start building your wishlist!
